MichBio seeks a highly motivated, goal-oriented marketing, communications and event planning professional who can work creatively in a small team environment and manage our interactions with the statewide life sciences industry and other constituencies.
MichBio is the non-profit trade association devoted to serving and being the voice of the biosciences industry in Michigan. The organization’s mission is to drive bio-industry growth through education and resources, business connectivity and promotion, and advocacy and policy engagement.
Ultimately, our goal is to grow MichBio’s brand, attract new members, connect the ecosystem, and promote healthy relations with our business partners. You will help us facilitate this by managing outreach programs, maintaining our social media presence and online content, and engaging our supporters and relationships.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
As Director, Marketing and Industry Engagement you will be responsible for designing and executing the messaging, branding, events and public relations activities for MichBio. You will focus on promoting and expanding MichBio’s reach and impact by developing and managing 1) content and resources, 2) programming of various types, and 3) a communications and branding strategy, all directed towards promoting MichBio and its member benefits and activities across various media platforms and outlets. You will report directly to the President/CEO and work closely and collaboratively with the other staff to achieve MichBio's targeted goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Devise and execute an integrated and effective marketing and promotions strategy.
Actively manage content production and communications to ensure messaging consistency and frequency.
Initiate, develop, coordinate, and distribute communications materials, including digital and online resources, print materials, and media content.
Coordinate and manage all aspects of event logistics and marketing (facility selection and planning, coordination of speakers/sponsors/attendees, event analytics).
Manage the organization’s website and digital footprint.
Support the implementation of member benefits with necessary collateral, content, and communications.
Help develop and manage the marketing and events operating budget.
Develop, implement, and manage marketing/media performance measurements.
Prepare marketing reports for the President/CEO and Board of Directors.
Develop and promote collaborative relationships and co-manage joint projects.
Manage and oversee vendor relationships.
QUALIFICATIONS:
You should have at least three years of experience in marketing, communications, and/or public relations with demonstrated success in using varied platforms, tools, and media. A background with membership organizations, trade associations, non-profits and/or government agencies, is highly desirable. You must be an independent thinker who is able to innovate, produce and execute compelling marketing and communications efforts with an attention to detail, an eye for design and compelling storytelling. A demonstrated ability as an effective team player is essential, as is the aptitude to communicate diplomatically and professionally with a wide variety of constituencies. You should have a good sense of humor and an appreciation for fellow colleagues, a passion for mission, ability to be flexible, and an interest in learning new areas in science, health and policy.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
Ability to build, motivate, and work within a small team to accomplish project goals.
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to use online marketing tools, e.g. Google Analytics.
Strong knowledge of WordPress-based websites and basic HTML.
Understanding of CRM systems.
Graphic design skills highly desired – Adobe Creative Suite or Canva (e.g. the ability to create/prep a graphic for the web or print materials).
Excellent “face-to-face” marketing, selling, and media skills.
Strong ability to be resourceful and juggle competing, time-sensitive priorities, sometimes with limited available means and support.
Strong project management and organizational skills.
Self-starter who takes initiative and can work independently.
Desire to be part of a mission-driven organization and contribute to its growth and reputation.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/LOCATION:
On-site flexible – work/life balance-friendly - can be fully onsite or hybrid position with in-person office days required. NOT a fully remote or out-of-geography role.
